In my early years I had Birmingham Rollers and belonged to a club in Portsmouth, Ohio. As time went on my interest developed for Racing Pigeons so I began to search for information on what strains could help me get started. At the time most of the strains in my area were: Janssen, Stassart, Heitzman Sions, and a few others. As a matter of fact the first 500 mile day bird in our area was a Red Check Sion. However I wasn’t convinced that any of those were what I was looking for.
During that time the fame of the Fabry family birds of George and Victor was spreading in the USA. Many of you have probably heard of birds like Porthos, Favio and McArthur the former from the early years. Art Rochol, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA was the agent for Fabry and after speaking with him the decision was made to get a bird from Mouchette and another related closely to Mosquito. It was an expensive venture.
This was to be my very first year to race. So I bought some 300 mile futurity bands and banded my first bird from that pair with #1. Luck was with us because #1 was first place and the winner of the futurity and my last for quite a few years. Again some problems with the neighbors occurred so my birds went to friend. That was my start in The USA… In another post maybe I will talk about my beginning here in the Philippines.
End of Story!!!
